Doctor Sleep is the almost 40-year continuation of horror classic The Shining. This sequel is directed and written by Mike Flanagan, the director of Oculus, Hush and Ouija: Origin of Evil.
Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) has grown up in the film. He has left his traumatized childhood experiences behind and his gift of the Shining under control. In the state of New Hampshire, Dan reports to an AA community to control his alcohol addiction. He gets a job here at a nursing home where he knows how to use his gift for good purposes. In this way he seems to be able to live his life in a normal, calm way. When Dan gets a telepathic connection with the young girl Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran) with his Shining gift, he learns that a cult called the True Knot led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson) hunts for people who also have a Shining gift. When the True Knot has spotted Abra and her gift and now come after her, Dan must learn to use his own gift again to help Abra. For this, he must again confront his childhood traumas.
Mike Flanagan had a difficult task with this sequel to satisfy both the fans of the movie The Shining and the Stephen King book Doctor Sleep with this sequel. Stephen King is the author of both books, but was not satisfied with Stanley Kubrick’s film version of The Shining. Mike Flanagan first had to convince Stephen King to use elements from the Shining film in this new film. With this film he tries to keep a balance between the different elements to both the fans of the books and the film. keep satisfied. Fans have to take into account that they will see both elements from the film and the book in this new film. This film really sounds like a film adaptation of a Stephen King book, but it also has some elements that you can see in a Stanley Kubrick film. Some elements from the Kubrick film have been placed a bit too repeatedly or exaggeratedly in this new film, such as the return of known places, events or characters. Mike Flanagan also tries to maintain a balance in the film between the different characters. This way you understand how characters with a Shining gift feel or behave, but you also get to see why characters from the True Knot now hunt people with a Shining gift. This way you as a viewer understand both sides of the story.
As a horror film, this film is fortunately not filled with too many simple jump scares, but Mike Flanagan, just like Stanley Kubrick, manages to keep the film exciting with an uncertain and horrible atmosphere. The film is more exciting than really scary.
Ewan McGregor does good acting as an older version of Dan Torrance. He comes across as someone who tries to leave his traumatized past behind and with good deeds tries to help others. Kyliegh Curran also provides well-fitting work in this film for a young novice actress. Rebecca Ferguson also provides fun acting as the leader of the True Knot. She knows how to create some exciting moments, but is never as intense as Jack Nicholson was in The Shining.

It builds up very slowly. But the third act brings you to the most memorable and brilliant scenes of the Shinning. It gave me chills. And nostalgia. It was so good. If you are a Shinning fan you must see it. The little details like a bar scene and chasing with an axe makes this movie marvelous. It will take you to the past. It will give you that experience you were craving for. It is not shinning and it will never be good as that masterpiece. But this movie will get under your skin if you are a fan.

Its crazy how these descriptions sound like this Christian Youth group my mom tried to get me to join when I was a teenager. The whole group kept asking me questions, wanting to get to know me. They taught me some lessons and made me felt like I belonged. At the time, I thought they were being overly nice? But when I went to leave, at least 8 of the group members stopped me individually and told me how much they would love it if I came back, and they gave me that stare lol. It really skeeved me out, and was the reason I didnt go back haha. Maybe its my new yorkerness that makes me shy away from people who are too openly nice like that.

I will say that the mushroom trip scenes were the most visually accurate representation of a mushroom trip Ive seen on film.

I still dont feel comfortable getting a job in my neighborhood out of fear that its a place frequented by any of them. But it gets easier every day. If you’re reading this, and are going through something similar, you’ll be okay. and you can leave too.

This film came out on Christmas day, the day our Savior was born to walk this Earth and pay for our sins. A Christian website reviewed this film well. As did many other film review sites. A (used to be) respected actor stars in this film. My sister and mother came to town to visit me for the holidays and we went to my local dine-in theater to see this movie based on those things. We walked out with PTSD, almost vomiting, utterly appalled, disgusted, offended, saddened, and enraged. This was not a film about a man who took a wrong turn in life. This is an uncensored pornographic film with multiple orgies, prostitutes, and lots of homosexuality. It was all about greed, sex, money, drugs, and defying the law and not getting caught. The fact that a Christian website rated this so well enrages, and deeply saddens me. DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. Thankfully, God would not let your life depend on this film. This is not what He intends for his children. We are meant to be His hands and heart in this world and be a beacon AGAINST all of this sin. We are meant to be the ones speaking out with love to say that THIS IS NOT THE WAY, not applauding this. Not allowing this to be what we let our families watch. This movie should not exist. Such a shame. Prayers to all involved that they might find God and follow his path, and prayers to all of those that had the misfortune of seeing this film that they find healing and peace in Him.

To start off, this movie is crazy. Drugs, orgy’s, more drugs, more orgy’s, partying, strippers, language, incest & basically everything. That being said, it doesn’t make it a bad movie at all. It’s an incredible movie. The best part about it is that during the 180 minutes of it, you are never bored, not even for a second. Even when something crazy isn’t going on, you can’t stop watching. Your mind doesn’t drift away wondering what time it is or when the movie will be over. I am pleasantly surprised that I never got bored, considering it’s lengthy film. Great filmmaking is when you have your audience’s attention the entire time. And boy, did this movie do that. The movie has a great ensemble, from Leonardo DiCaprio to Jon Bernthal, from Jonah Hill to Kyle Chandler. All amazing actors. They did an outstanding job, especially Leo. I can’t tell you how much I’m rooting for him to get an Oscar for this. His performance is memorable, hilarious & crazy. I loved every second of it. This movie in a whole is just very well made. I’ve seen quite a few of the movie that have been up for awards this year, and this one has been my favorite so far. The film just shows you a lot of how Wall Street works, which is interesting. They explain a few things throughout the film about it, not much, but enough for you to understand what exactly is happening. It’s not a confusing movie, which is nice. Also something interesting is that it’s based off a true story. Yes, based” doesn’t mean this is completely accurate to what happened, Hollywood always adds a little extra to it, but if you want to learn more about the true story, I suggest you read elsewhere because I know nothing of it. This is getting tedious, so I will wrap it up here. The highlight of the movie is definitely the acting and the pure insanity of it all. The cinematography, editing, and all that jazz is good. I’m not blown away by it, but it was very good. PLEASE GO WATCH THIS MOVIE! You will NOT be disappointed!

Great video! I agreed with 99% of it (pun intended. However, the polar bear has been known to resemble symbolizes endurance, strength, determination, protection, and peace. Its white coat embodies invisibility, purity, surrender, and acceptance. and animal signifies that you are fierce, strong, adaptable and also playful. Just as a polar bear survives in harsh climatic conditions, you too, do not complain and know how to tackle adverse situations. To me says that there is hope, but it will take further courage, strength, endurance, and the ability to adapt to survive. To me the polar bear is a symbol of the daughter and child (forgive me forget her/his name. In the movie she’s playful (remember the scenes going through the club train section and there after. Smiling having fun holding a bottle of alcohol, playful side. Strong, because she was willing to stab the terminater-esque man (albeit her father stopped her) but she had the strength and courage to do what needed to be done. Adaptable, due to the harsh living of the tail end of the train and the willingness to venture outside of the train. This is just my opinion, and again loved the break down of this, I literally just watched this last night. And there is soooooo much symbolism in this movie than what was mention in this video. There are a lot of esoteric symbolism hidden in the movie, e.g. the man with the angel wings falling, the unstoppable man being stabbed in the side like Jesus on the cross, the light-bearer Wilford whom controls the chaos that is this train. Lucifer the light bearer whom brings technology and knowledge to the people and controls the world (well the ones privy to it, he’s fellow fallen ones. And the people in the back of the train, IMO resembles the meek of the world. And one day, the meek will inherit the earth. Idk, these are just my thoughts and I’m sure I am way off base. But, hey, fun to theorize.

This might be a prequel, cuz the film is like 17 years on the train, the trailer for this one says 6 years, this is probably the first revolt that was mentioned in the film where all the ammo went “extinct” so, if its a prequel Im all in for it.
For a remake (or remade feom the book) its pretty much the same tone as the movie, just more sex.
I fucking love this movie, its gonna be considered a classic for years.

Vlad Țepes: One of the few great rulers of Romania that brought fear into his enemies through some unique strategies of battle. His most definite mark was that he impaled a huge amount of people with no remorse! Despite what most say, HE DID NOT DO THIS FOR PLEASURE! he was impaling only THIEVES, LIERS and invaders of Wallachia, mostly punishing those that opposed the ways of God. There was no jail time or captures. He executed them on sight, impaling them to set an example. Because he was so straight with his executions and filled his entire country with impaled bodies terrifying everyone, people started to think that he is evil. Until to the point the story of Dracula started to emerge. Another reason why he was considered evil was that he impaled even a lot of rich people that tried to betray him. Because of this, those that opposed him tried to make the people hate and fear him by spreading FALSE stories in the hope that his support would diminish and he could be taken down from his throne. Here are the 2 most infamous strategies that he used to defeat the ottoman empire even if he was greatly outnumbered. 1. He and his men chopped off an entire forest and dressed it as soldiers. When the ottoman soldiers arrived, they retreated frightened of the numbers Vlad armies were posing. 2. ‘The night attack. He and a few men dressed as ottomans went into their enemy camp, starting a riot under the reason Get up and fight, Romanians have dressed as ottomans and are sabotaging our camp. This way the ottoman forces slaughtered themselves. After battles, all of the fallen bodies were impaled to set an example. Make no mistake, the Ottoman forces could have crushed Romanian forces like bugs. The armies used for their campaign were not to conquer, but to recover the tribute Romanians were supposed to give. This means the numbers of soldiers sent to oppose Vlad was fairly low compared with the entire Ottoman armada! This is a short and very simplified version of the real Dracula history. The legend is nice, but too far from truth. I like that in this movie Vlad is presented as a DEFENDER, ready to sacrifice all that he has for the sake of his family and people. One way or another this is what he actually did, and i hope this movie will resurrect at least the intentions of Vlad.

Just like the Lion King then? just a re-creation without the spark, intrigue and originality. I’ll sit out thanks. The original was dark and had a very evil attitude to it, even when there were upbeat moments like with the children. This looks to have none of that.
The explosion was what set off the alvalanche due to the noise.
